James Ford is not only the 2014 North Carolina Teacher of the Year but also the Charlottean of the Year as named by Charlotte Magazine. In being named this honor, James was also in the company of world famous ballerina dancer Patricia McBride, and a prosecutor who exposed a corrupt mayor from Charlotte.

 

James talks how he transitioned from being a truant officer to a classroom teacher and later leaving the classroom to have a stronger voice for all children in North Carolina.

Thomas Whaley teaches second-grade on Long Island.  Thomas has been named as both a NY Teacher of the Year and one of NPR’s 50 Great Teachers.  In addition, Thomas has also written Leaving Montana, a novel that has won very impressive awards as a first time effort.

Anna is the 2014 Montana Teacher of the Year and teaches high school English on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. In addition, Anna has also given a TED talk encouraging teachers to find their inner voice.

 

Anna talks about a number of issues facing today's teacher, including what she sees as a crisis of over-testing in the American educational system.  Anna shares her views why we shouldn't follow the exact path of the previous teacher and her "no-grade classroom" concept that applies to the classes that she teaches.
