Jeff Baxter was separated from his mother at birth for what was considered standard practice of the day when women with tuberculosis gave birth.  His father left arcitectual school to enter the workforce and Jeff was raised by his grandmother, a retired English teacher.  Jeff talks about how his grandmother would never give him a straight answer to any of his childhood questions, but instead, she would answer all of his curiosities with a poem or story.

 

Jeffrey Baxter would become Kansas Teacher of the Year at age 64, only after postponing his retirement due to a personal struggle that was taking over his life.  You will become inspired hearing Jeff talk about his upbringing and career as an educator.

Sandra Hall did not take the traditional route to become a teacher, as her background is in business administration. Her husband serves in the US military and they lived for 10 years in Germany.  It wasn't until she returned back home to the states did she begin her teaching career.

James Ford is not only the 2014 North Carolina Teacher of the Year but also the Charlottean of the Year as named by Charlotte Magazine. In being named this honor, James was also in the company of world famous ballerina dancer Patricia McBride, and a prosecutor who exposed a corrupt mayor from Charlotte.

 

James talks how he transitioned from being a truant officer to a classroom teacher and later leaving the classroom to have a stronger voice for all children in North Carolina.

Anna is the 2014 Montana Teacher of the Year and teaches high school English on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. In addition, Anna has also given a TED talk encouraging teachers to find their inner voice.
